Harrison sued after shooting incident last spring As if the Colts needed any more on their plate after an unusually slow start to the NFL season, wide receiver Marvin Harrison is being sued by the victim of an April 29 shooting in which the weapon used was allegedly licensed to Harrison.

Basketball sneak peek

It’s not midnight madness, but the men?s and women?s basketball teams will be introduced and put on display in a meet-the-team event to be held Saturday Oct. 18, 2:00 p.m. at the Activities Center. Kicking things off the teams will have a scrimmage to showcase their skills before a free youth basketball clinic, and photo and autograph opportunities will cap things off.

Rugby team picks up where it left off

UVU Rugby dominates the field against Oregon State winning by 34 points, and the team is only getting better. “Our team just gets better every semester of play,” said second year head coach Gary Brown. And it has shown as the returning second place winners of last year’s division II team returns for another year of excellent rugby.

Most collegiate sports fans know that Hockey can be one of the most physical sports. Why? Fighting. While fighting in other sports is a big deal, fighting on the ice means only five minutes in a penalty box. The fist game of the season, the Wolverines came out fighting against Utah State.

Making Headlines Raiders fire yet another head coach Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis informed his former coach Lane Kiffen that he was being fired after leading the team to a measly 5-15 record under his tenure. After a quarrel with defensive coordinator Bob Ryan, Kiffen was asked by Davis to resign last season.

Sports Briefs Upcoming men’s basketball schedule released UVU’s head men’s basketball coach, Dick Hunsaker, has released his team’s 2008-2009 schedule, which features 16 home games. “We’re excited about our home schedule this year,” Hunsaker said. “We have 16 games here at the McKay Events Center, highlighted by matches against in-state rivals Utah State and Southern Utah.

Men’s soccer club nets big win

The UVU men’s soccer club held their own on Saturday evening against the mighty Olympique Montreux with a 3-1 win. The match was tipped to be a cracker and it did not disappoint. This was a major match for the Wolverines as they were facing a daunting task against the best team in the premier league.

Schott again repeats as Defensive Player of the Week For the third consecutive week, Utah Valley University goalkeeper Mallory Schott has been named the Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The senior from Vancouver, Washington, continued to hold up the back line for Utah Valley despite a 0-2 week for the Wolverines at the Idaho State Classic.
