After three meets in the 2008 season the cross country team remains positive and healthy as they move forward.
With the season well under way, “Everything is moving in a good direction,” said head coach Scott Houle. “We’ve done fairly well.”
Their season began Aug. 30 at the Idaho State Invitational in Pocatello. This meet was a great start to the season. The men finished in second place with the help of one of the top runners Jared Keller, a red-shirt sophomore from Orem. The women finished in third place with the help of another top runner, Krystal Harper, a freshman also from Orem.
Next they returned home for a meet that took place locally in Provo on September 6th at the BYU Autumn Classic. In this meet the men finished in fourth place while the women finished in sixth place. Once again star runner Keller lead the way for the wolverines finishing in 12th place in the men’s four mile.
Their third meet took place in Bozeman, Montana, at the Montana State University Invite on Sept. 20. The men finished in fifth place with the women finishing in sixth place. Keller led the pack of wolverines for the second straight meet and finished in 10th place.
As one of the team’s top runners Keller has managed to place high in two out of the three meets so far. “He’s a great leader and a great runner,” Houle said. Keller is also one of the team captains this year.
For the women, Houle says Harper, a freshman, seems to be one of this year’s top runners. “We brought her in knowing how talented she was.”
Houle says, “Everyone is healthy and look to run really well” for their next few meets. They will travel to Cedar City for the Color Country Invitational on Oct. 11.
