Schott again repeats as Defensive Player of the Week

For the third consecutive week, Utah Valley University goalkeeper Mallory Schott has been named the Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The senior from Vancouver, Washington, continued to hold up the back line for Utah Valley despite a 0-2 week for the Wolverines at the Idaho State Classic. Schott collected six saves in a 1-0 loss against Wyoming and then collected eight saves in the 2-1 loss to UC Davis.

Schott kept the Wolverines in both games despite being out shot 18-6, while playing all 180 minutes in the net and collecting a .824 saves percentage.

South Dakota’s Sarah Halbach earned the Offensive Player of the Week.

UVU will travel to Flagstaff, Arizona, to face New Mexico on Friday and Northern Arizona on Sunday before returning home to host Idaho on Friday, Oct. 3.

Women’s Golf Moves Up on Final Day in Idaho

All five Utah Valley golfers equaled or posted their best rounds on Tuesday in the final round of the Bulldogs and Eagles Invitational at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls, Idaho.

The Wolverines moved up to finish 13th overall, one shot in front of Idaho State. Abbie Lei Archibald, who began the day tied for 32nd, finished 33rd overall after a 7-over-79, the best round of the day for a UVU golfer.

Abby Wheeling tied for 61st after matching her best round of the tournament with an 83. Erika Baldwin’s 84 put her in 67th overall while Monica Fox equaled Wheeling’s day with an 83 and finished in a tie for 74th. Senior Kasey Larson had the second best round of the day for a Wolverine with an 82.

Portland State swept both the team and individual titles. The Vikings finished first overall in the team competition, exactly where it began the day, by six strokes over Cal Poly while Stephanie Johns fired a 2-under-par 70 to win medalist honors by three strokes.

Up next for the Wolverines, they will compete in the Aztec Fall Classic on Oct. 13-14 in Chula Vista, California.
