Though UVU’s athletic teams have struggled on the road this season, their efforts at home have yielded significant success. At week’s end, both the women’s soccer and volleyball teams were undefeated at home, something that hasn’t always been the case for the Wolverines.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, states the great maxim. The intramurals department is all about fun, challenges and socializing. In addition, you get to engage actively in a hobby that does not require you to attend training sessions. All you have to do is be there and participate.

Armstrong joins Astana In need of a team after announcing his return to the sport of cycling to race in the 2009 Tour de France, seven-time Tour winner Lance Armstrong announced that he will ride for team Astatna. The move was anticipated, as Armstrong’s long time team director Johan Bruyneel will be guiding him through the race after leading Lance in his seven wins.

Football home evening

Monday Night Football came to an all-time high, breaking all cable records with 18.6 million viewers Sept. 15. It crushed the previous record of 17.5 million viewers. Millions watched and partied during the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets game that ended with the Cowboys on top 41-37.

Miscue sinks RSL

What once was a team that was unbeatable at home and first in the Western Conference standings is now holding on to secure a playoff spot as Real Salt Lake enters the final stretch of the season. In last weeks 1-0 loss, Chivas USA snapped RSL’s home-unbeaten streak and dropped them from second in the west down into the middle of the tightly contested conference.

Wolverines remain tough at home

It was a long fought battle that ended in a five-set win for the Wolverines as they remained unbeaten at home this season. Things were looking up for the girls in the first game as they had a decent lead and won 25-20. The nail biting began in the second when Weber took the two-point win 26-24.

Wolverines benefit from playing at home

For the first time this season the women’s volleyball team experienced home court advantage and the crowd was certainly a boost. “We have had some tough losses, so it was exciting to come home and do what we know how to,” sophomore Kayli Broadbent said. The team put forth the best offensive attack of the season.

Road Tested?

One thing that’s always plagued UVU has been winning on the road. As the women’s soccer team heads out on its first road trip and the volleyball team takes off for yet another tough trip, the records of both teams may suffer.

Unfortunately for the Wolverines the best example of struggling on the road happened to be last seasons women’s basketball team.

Great Falls knocks off defending champs Owlz

After an impressive season that saw the Orem Owlz cruise to the best record in the league, win 14 games in a row and put out the league MVP in Roberto Lopez, they dropped the third and final game of the Pioneer League championship series to lose the title to the Great Falls Voyagers.

Overtime magic expires in scoreless draw

Coming back from two exciting overtime wins and having an untainted 3-0 record, the women’s soccer team held on in a double overtime to tie with Idaho State last week. With nearly 500 fans attending, the crowd was anxious for a repeat overtime goal. UVU had its chances to score, but resorted to solid defense to avoid defeat.
