Robert Englund not returning as Freddy Krueger

It was announced earlier this year that New Line Cinema will be remaking the Nightmare on Elm Street horror film series. The “complete overhaul” of the series also means that Robert Englund will not be reprising his role as the blade wielding Freddy Krueger.

Forget The Ring, Prom Night, and every other PG-13 scary movie. In no specific order, here is my list of creepy R-rated flicks sure to give you goose bumps, keep you up at night, make you never want to be home alone again, and return your fear of the dark.

Ugandan Orphans Benefit from “Mockingbird Fly” Fundraiser

Uganda might seem like far away and exotic place to most Americans, but for David Ssejinja, it is his native home and life’s work. Ssejinja is currently supporting about 950 Ugandan children and widows there, most of them disadvantaged by AIDS and war. He started the Ssejinja Children’s Foundation to “give back” to his country, and to give the children what he never had growing up there.

A look into the culinary department’s cooking

How does making lunch for 4,000 high school students sound? The culinary arts department at UVU did just that on Tuesday when they prepared 4,000 hot dogs during the Center for the Advancement of Leadership’s 9th annual leadership conference. “That is a lot of food,” said chef instructor Troy Wilson, C.

Enrollment up over 12 percent

The Utah System of Higher Education released fall enrollment numbers of the nine stated funded colleges and universities in the state. State growth reached almost 12,000 new students in the higher education system. Utah Valley University is among the highest growth with nearly 3,000 more students enrolled than fall 2007.

National talk show host to speak on campus

Nationally-syndicated talk show host, Glenn Beck will be at UVU to receive the first Pioneer in Leadership award and to speak on “The Power of Choice” on Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. in the McKay Events Center. The BYU Management Society-Utah Valley Chapter chose to honor Beck at a public event and to hold it at UVU.

What’s in a name?

As people enter the first level of the library on the east side, they cannot miss the massive oil-painting mural that graces the stair-side wall. This artwork has a name, “The UVU Story.” With a simple title, the artwork summons UVU’s 34 years of history of excellence and growth.

Murder mystery fundraiser a roaring success

As guests of the Murder Mystery Dinner, Godfather of the Bride, began to arrive at the UVU ballroom Wednesday night, they were greeted with sounds from another time. Big Band music drifted into the foyer and complemented the guests decked out in 1920s attire.

California gay marriages surpass Massachusetts – During the first three months since legalization of gay marriages in California, a study found that nearly 11,000 couples have wed, compared to 10,385 in Massachusetts. The research was released Oct. 6 by the Williams Institute at UCLA.
