National talk show host to speak on campus

Nationally-syndicated talk show host, Glenn Beck will be at UVU to receive the first Pioneer in Leadership award and to speak on “The Power of Choice” on Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. in the McKay Events Center.

The BYU Management Society-Utah Valley Chapter chose to honor Beck at a public event and to hold it at UVU.

“Since the Utah Valley chapter of The Management Society supports
scholarships for BYU and UVU students, we were open to holding the event on either campus,” said Mike Hale from the chapter. “The McKay Events Center was an available venue with adequate space to support the amount of people we anticipate attending.”

Beck will be the guest of honor at a VIP dinner and will then be the featured speaker for the evening. “Many prominent people from the nearby communities will be in attendance as well as state and local dignitaries,” Hale said. “Many businesses have reserved VIP tables for the dinner portion.”

When determining who to choose for the inaugural recipient of the award, the chapter selected Beck. “Glenn Beck was chosen as our recipient because of the impact he was having showing moral and ethical qualities through the media channels,” Hale said.

Beck’s radio show, The Glenn Beck Program, began in 2002 and is heard on more than 270 stations. It is the third-highest ranked national talk show in the nation. He became the host of his own talk show on Headline News in 2006 and is one of the network’s highest-rated program.

Tickets for the general session can be purchased for $20 at 800-888-tixx with student tickets at $10 available at the McKay Events Center ticket office with student I.D. Money from the event goes toward scholarship funding.
