MAWL outperformed in loss to Utah State

January 5, 2009 Matt Beaudin 0

Late in the second half of Utah Valley’s Dec. 13 69-50 loss to Utah State, chants of “Orem High School… Orem High School” echoed throughout the McKay Center. The chant, led by a portly Utah State student in the Aggies’ fan section, was icing on the cake as the Aggies stomped all over the Wolverines.

Learning from your mistakes can help you play better. That’s what Utah Valley did to improve their record to 5-6. After playing 9-0 Mississippi State at home and losing, the Wolverines learned from their mistakes to give a relentless fight against Portland State in an exciting overtime victory.

Not so welcome Homecoming

December 8, 2008 Kyle Jellings 0

The Wolverines hosted the University of California-Santa Barbara Gauchos in their first homecoming game as a university. However it was not a great start, as the Gauchos would hand the Wolverines their second loss of the season, 62-57. “Santa Barbara came out very aggressive,” UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker said.

When Christmas music filters through speakers in the mall and every department store within the realm of civilization, it means something is just around the corner for college football fans — bowl week. While Hanukkah has eight wonderful days of celebration and Christmas will finish 2008 with a bang, the college football bowl games make the holiday season long lasting and enjoyable.

Flash fall in home opener

December 8, 2008 Tony Gunderson 0

“We eat Jam for breakfast,” is what a sign in the crowd displayed as the Utah Flash kicked off their home opener last week, but apparently it was not on the menu as the Bakersfield Jam beat the Flash in overtime 102-100. It was the first time the two have met since back in April when the Flash dominated on their home court.

Struggles early for lady Wolverines

November 24, 2008 Matt Beaudin 0

A team with an All-American, several returning starters and a home court advantage that resulted in an undefeated run in the McKay Center last season isn’t suppose to start out the year with a loss. But that’s exactly what happened to the Wolverines. After dropping their only exhibition game to Fort Lewis at home 82-53 the Wolverines should have taken notice.

Toolson nets 41 in decisive win

November 24, 2008 Kyle Jellings 0

Newton’s first law of motion states, “Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.” In the first two games of the Wolverines’ season Ryan Toolson has been an object in motion, and defenses have not been able to apply the force necessary to stop him.
