Air Force Cadets sing at the Institute

The United States Air Force Academy’s Latter-day Saint Cadet Choir gave a great concert honoring both our country and the LDS church. They sang some beautiful songs, including the national anthem, “The U.S. Air Force,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Praise to the Man,” and “Come Thou Fount.” The students also enjoyed a piano solo of the song “I Stand All Amazed.”

Yohannes faces life-long sentence

Kiddus Yohannes, the former student who was arrested June 2007 on charges of purchasing guns illegally and unlawfully possessing his roommates debit card, was convicted on Feb. 15 and may face life in the custody of immigration officials.

Celebrating Mormon Commentary

In 1908, famed sociologist Thomas F. O’Dea published a monumental work on the LDS church titled THE MORMONS, a commentary that is now a staple in the collections of many contemporary Mormon theologists, researchers and critics. In celebration of the publication’s 50th anniversary, UVSC’s Behavioral Science department will host an on-campus conference titled “Thomas F. O’Dea’s THE MORMONS: A Reconsideration Fifty Years Later.”

Vagina Monologues selects beneficiary

Each year a local beneficiary is chosen and spotlighted. The beneficiaries of The Vagina Monologues ticket sales have been Turning Point at UVSC, Promise for Women and Children, the Donner/Galbraith Scholarship, House of Hope, and this year’s Center for Women and Children in Crisis.

Paying the price of university

July 1, UVSC will take the next step in its evolution, becoming the newest university in the state. This long anticipated upgrade has prompted a lot of questions within the student body, and most of all they are asking, “How much will this cost me?”

The New York Times foreign editor speaks on campus

Another transition for university status

With the transition to university status, the school’s Web site received a major facelift and, along with it, a new name.
Prior to the actual switch over to a university, the school launched the home page of its new university Web site: www.uvu.edu

Ambassador of Nepal to speak at UVSC

Ambassador Madhu Raman Acharya of Nepal is coming to UVSC February 21. Acharya will speak to two UVSC classes, Thursday, February 21, at 10 a.m. in professor’s Keith Snedegar class, “The Nature of History,” in LA 124 on the development of history in Nepal; and on Thursday, February 21, at 11:30 a.m. in professor Scott Williams’s class, “Programming,” in GT 511H on trekking business in Nepal.

Fifth annual Red Cross “Run for Red”

The Red Cross will host their fifth annual Run for Red 5K and one mile fun run on Saturday, March 8. All proceeds from the event will benefit local disaster relief efforts sponsored by the chapter.

UVU’s list of bachelors grows with the addition of dental hygiene

UVSC has grown substantially in the past few years, having added 5 new bachelor degree programs for Fall 2006 and another 5 for Fall 2007. In keeping with this tradition of growth, it has recently been announced that UVSC has confirmed that a new degree will be offered to its more than 23,000 students. On 28 January 2008, The Utah State Board of Regents approved a four year Bachelor Degree in dental hygiene.

Obama rally excites Utah voters

Local temple president honors Hinckley

At his devotional speech on February 1, the President of the Provo Temple, President Merrill J. Bateman, gave a tribute to President Gordon B. Hinckley for his work with temples around the world. Because of Hinckley, millions of people around the world have access to a temple, and temple work is being done in at least thirty-five languages.
