Nov. 19 – Attempted Suicide – A 25-year-old male attempted suicide by overdosing on prescription medication. UVU custodial personnel discovered the unconscious male in a restroom in the Liberal Arts building and notified police. The male was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Christian identity debate

A long-haired man, scruffy, unshaven, sits perched on a porcelain throne, sans clothing, mouth agape, taking his next bite of the half-eaten hamburger he clutches in his hand.

Saving gas by using water?

“Double your gas mileage.” Instead of paying inflated prices for gas at the pump, drivers can do just that by filling up with water, according to the claim made by a very popular website.

Water4gas.com offers customers a 183-page do-it-yourself manual that gives detailed instructions about how you can turn your car into a “water hybrid.

In memory of Amanda Marie Clifford 1988-2008

On Nov. 11, UVU student Amanda Marie Clifford, 20, of Lindon passed away at Utah Valley Hospital from injuries sustained in a car accident. According to reports Clifford was cut-off in traffic by another driver at around 8 a.m. Clifford swerved right to avoid the collision, then swerved left into a semi-truck.

Eating disorders fair educates on dangers

Student Health Services recently held an eating disorders fair in the Hall of Flags to provide students with a broad understanding of the risks and hazards associated with poor nutrition habits, misuse of drugs, steroids and other potentially dangerous habits and stimulants.

Firefighter students train on campus

Flames tore through the building. A dozen men in heavy gear ran in, dragging hoses. Fire trucks surrounded the building, and bystanders looked on in awe. Nearby firefighters worked to get “victims” out of a crumpled heap of cars sandwiched together. In no time, the flames were subdued, and a light residue of smoke in the air was the only evidence of the huge fire that had seemed out of control.

Hunger Banquet raises money and awareness

Nov. 10 – MENTAL SUBJECT – UVU Police responded to 800 W University Parkway in response to an unscheduled protest. A 46-year-old female and a 66-year-old male were trespassing on UVU property. The protesters have a history of mental illness and believe UVU is part of a cult.

GMAIL ADDS VIDEO AND AUDIO CHAT – Google announced it will join Yahoo and Microsoft in the race to make Web communication more social by adding video and audio chat to its free e-mail service. Currently, Gmail is the third largest e-mail service, serving 113 million users worldwide.

Deadline approaches for stimulus checks

Did you get your economic stimulus check this year? If you did not, but you thought you were entitled to one, it may have been returned to the Internal Revenue Service because of an incorrect address. There have been 279,000 checks, totaling $163 million, that were “returned to sender” due to bad addresses.

School transferring know-how

Reasons for transferring out of state can be anything from a purely academic standpoint to something as simple as a form of escape to live away from home and independently. Many are often drawn solely into the social aspects of a university, such as sporting events, a large student body, the nightlife or the close proximity to ski resorts or famous beaches.
