Utah Valley’s women’s volleyball team is in Denton, Texas this weekend to compete in the Mean Green Classic. The lady Wolverines won their first match of the tournament against Jackson State. Friday afternoon’s win came in a 3-0 sweep with set scores of 25-8, 25-16, 25-18.

UVU hit the court with an eruption of Wolverine skill as they took an astounding lead of eight unanswered points. The lady Tigers tried to match UVU’s gusto but were only able to land one point before the Wolverines reeled off 10 straight to take a daunting 18-1 advantage. From there it was almost child’s play as UVU ended the first set in a 17 point lead.

Jackson State came to the second set with their game faces on, as in the early stages the showed them countering back from the lost they took in the first. The set remained rather tight until UVU hit a 8-3 run and took a 20-11 lead. After that the set quickly ended with the Wolverines taking the win again.

The third set showed the Tigers fighting back hard as they kept the score volleying back and forth for the majority of the frame. Sadly for Jackson State their female athletes weren’t able to rally enough to stop the lady Wolverines. The match ended with UVU scoring seven of the last nine points and winning the frame.

UVU takes on Abilene Christian on Saturday, September 13th at noon for their next match in the tournament.
