UVU Women’s Soccer Successful on Homecoming Night

UVU women’s soccer continued its success at home as the team extended its winning streak to three games after defeating UTEP 2-0 on homecoming night Friday. The victory ends UTEP’s 5-game winning streak and marks the third straight shutout for the lady Wolverines.

A pair of goals by UVU sent UTEP women’s soccer team home with its first loss of the season. Kalli Suesue scored in the 14th minute after striking a loose ball that came off a corner kick taken by forward Mckell Salmon. The second and final goal came after the direct kick taken by Lexi Robison when mid-fielder Kim Stratford received the pass inside the box and buried the ball in the bottom left corner of the net.

The UVU defense put on another impressive performance as it earns its third shutout of the season. UTEP ended the first half with zero shots on goal. UVU’s defense withstood UTEP’s second half attack with 6 shots on goal to help get the shutout victory. Keeper Jessica Duffin continued to lead the team in its third consecutive shutout with 6 saves.

UVU women’s soccer improves its overall regular season recored to 4-2-1. The team’s record improves to 4-0-1 on the current 7-game home stand.

The lady Wolverines look to extend their unbeaten streak at home Sunday when they face UNLV at 2:00p.m. MT.
