RSL looks to make another playoff push

April 20, 2009 Matt Beaudin 0

In an effort to continue its winning-ways-of-late, Real Salt Lake took on DC United, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs a year ago, and escaped with a 2-1 win. For a team that has been a bottom dweller in Major League Soccer since joining the league in 2005, RSL has made the necessary adjustments to become competitive night in and night out.

Wolverine bats humble Utes

April 13, 2009 Kyle Jellings 0

In what seemed to be the first of Utah’s baseball-permitting weather of the season, the Wolverines’ offense was stellar and they beat in-state foe, the University of Utah 8-2. Utah Valley got off to a good start scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Utes would answer, scoring two in the top of the second off of two Wolverine errors and a sac fly.

Intramurals continues to promote competition among students

April 13, 2009 Parker Donat 0

This semester, intramurals have allowed students to compete with members of their own school in their favorite sports, like basketball and soccer, without belonging to an official campus team. It also provided many activities for students to get involved. Though the semester is coming to a close, intramurals still have much to offer students the last few weeks of school, like a golf tournament on April 14, Dodge Ball Night on April 16t, disc golf tournament April 21 and the Stress Bustin’ 5k the April 22.

Rodeo team finishes regular season second in nation

April 13, 2009 Matt Beaudry 0

Even a hole in a cowboy’s heart can’t stop him from doing what he loves. That’s not a cheesy lyric from the latest country-western hit, but rather simple reality for UVU bulldogger Jake Woolstenhulme. The junior steer-wrestler waited until he was declared the Rocky Mountain region’s steer wrestling champion, and had earned a berth to the Intercollegiate Rodeo National Finals, before undergoing heart surgery last week to repair a condition that has hindered him since high school.

Wolverines come up short against Utes

April 6, 2009 Matt Beaudin 0

Shortly before a bad April-fools-joke blanketed the outfield grass with a thin, yet frigid layer of snow, the UVU baseball team fell short in its quest to knock off the University of Utah 9-6 at Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem. The game, which was supposed to be held in Salt Lake, was moved to Utah Valley.

Calipari accepts Kentucky job Not only did former Memphis coach John Calipari accept the vacant head-coaching job at Kentucky, he also accepted the richest contract of any NCAA coach to-date. His 8-year $31.65 million contract suggests, contrary to Calipari’s opinion, that he is the “Man” in Lexington and the coach who is expected to quickly resurrect the Wildcat basketball program.

Rodeo event goes off without a hitch

April 6, 2009 Lisa Beaudry 0

Before apple pie, before baseball, there was the old west and rodeo. Could there be anything more American than rodeo? Rodeo is a compilation of all of the skills required to survive in the rugged old west. If you didn’t perfect those skills, quite simply, you could die.
