Calipari accepts Kentucky job
Not only did former Memphis coach John Calipari accept the vacant head-coaching job at Kentucky, he also accepted the richest contract of any NCAA coach to-date. His 8-year $31.65 million contract suggests, contrary to Calipari’s opinion, that he is the “Man” in Lexington and the coach who is expected to quickly resurrect the Wildcat basketball program. Although Calipari believes he will return the Wildcats to national-championship glory, he assured reporters and Kentucky officials that it will take longer than one season to work his basketball magic. Calipari has taken two teams to the final four in his coaching career, Memphis last season and Massachusetts before that.
Stallworth charged with manslaughter
The Cleveland Browns Donte Stallworth has been charged with manslaughter and DUI after killing a man in a traffic accident that took place in Miami last month. The wide receiver had a blood-alcohol level of .12, above the legal limit of .08. The accident occurred when Stallworth’s car struck 59-year-old Mario Reyes and killed him. According to ESPN.com, Stallworth expressed his regret saying, ” My family and I are grief-stricken over the tragic accident which occurred Saturday on Miami Beach where Mario Reyes sadly lost his life.”
