If you’ve been reading the paper for a few issues you may have noticed that there is an almost new section. What used to be called Lifestyle is now the Arts and Culture section. Some may wonder, is there really a difference? The answer is yes, there is. Arts and Culture might seem very straight forward, but when you break it down it’s actually very specific. With the word “and” connecting them, there are two categories that will be written about; let’s focus on the first: Art. The definition of art, according to Webster’s dictionary, is something that is created with imagination and skill; something that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings. As students, are very lucky to live in a place that is surrounded by art of every kind, including: music, dance, theater, fine arts, architecture, fashion, design, culinary arts, and self-expression. The Arts and Culture section at the UVU Review wants to illustrate all that this incredible and versatile county has to offer.

The next word, culture, is defined by Webster’s dictionary as: the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time. This includes food, language, faith, interactions with other people and everything that makes your experience here unique. What this means, is that you are the culture here. You are what we want to write about. You are who we want to write for. The Arts and Culture section should be a community of people who help each other and talk with each other. Do you love food and want to know great places to eat? Tell us. Are you an art fanatic who wants to go to museums and experience new forms or artistic expression, or do you love theatre and want to see more shows? Do you love to dance but can’t find anywhere to go? Do you want to read more literary analysis written by your fellow students? Do you want to meet more people who impress you and share your love of art and culture? Tell us, and we will get you what you want to know. This section, and you as a reader, should have a dialogue as much as possible. We want to this be a section that you can not wait to read every week when it hits the .
