With the size of UVU’s campus, stairs are inevitable. Students got together to rate the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the many UVU stairs.

To quote Po from Kung Fu Panda, ‘Ah, my old enemy, stairs’. At UVU, any student can tell you all about the large number of stairs on campus, from the stairs tracing the Gunther Technology building to the picturesque main stairs in the Scott C. Keller building. However, any of the students at UVU would also be all too happy to share the cons of having such a large campus with so many staircases. When consulting a group of UVU students: Narel Hernandez, McKennah Nelson, and Ray Woichik, three potential stair rating categories came up. Accessibility, Fallibility, and Maneuverability.

When asked, some humorous stories were revealed. “I would have to say that the best stairs to fall down are the ones in the Noorda”, Hernandez expressed, “my roommate who’s done so says it’s especially best if you do so at 7 a.m. when no one’s around to see you eat it. And she’s got experience in falling down the stairs.” Nelson followed up with, “I think we should make one of the categories whether you’ll get hit by doors when using them. Because those doors at the main staircase in the Keller are a hazard.” She followed this declaration with “but it’s either the doors or the people napping in the back staircases.”

Woichik brought up concerns regarding accessibility. “It’s great that UVU has it’s very own built-in stair-master, but sometimes the elevators are just too slow, and people don’t think about accessibility needs.” They followed this with a simple statement: “If you do have accessibility needs, never plan to rush yourself between your classes. UVU elevators work to their full potential about half of the time.”

When asked to rate which ones they would use consistently, they came to a consensus: Avoid the Gunther Technology stairs, if possible; and look for the secret, less used stairways. “There are also campus stairs that make awesome study spots”, Hernandez suggested, “just head to the Fugal Gateway or the stairs by the Reflection Center.”

Basically, the stairs on UVU campus are versatile and are found all over. Every building on UVU’s campus has at least one staircase to help students get around. If you are interested in learning more about them or want to see the UVU Review’s rating of them, keep an eye on our social media pages for some stair-to-stair ratings.
