Police blotter

Unknown alarm

Dec. 20-An officer responded to a “full alarm”—not a fire alarm but some other unknown alarm—in the Browning Administration Building. The area and alarm panel were checked and nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary.

Drunken individuals

Dec. 22-An officer assisted Orem police with a group of drunken individuals near campus. The UVU officer assisted until the primary aggressor, who was extremely intoxicated, was taken away in a patrol vehicle.

Abandoned vehicle

Dec. 22-Police received a complaint that a vehicle had been abandoned in the National Guard Building for several months. Upon investigation, the car was found to belong to an employee. No further action was taken.

Textbook con artist

Dec. 28-A suspicious person was reported in the bookstore. The suspect allegedly has a history of stealing books and attempting to sell them back to the bookstore. In this particular incident, most of the books he was trying to sell were not originally from the UVU Bookstore.

Stuffed animal cold case

Dec. 30-A stuffed animal that was allegedly stolen from the school eight years ago was returned to the police department. Officers have no information on potential suspects.

Fleeing thief

Dec. 31-Dispatch assisted Orem P.D. with a theft suspect who had fled from Wal-Mart toward UVU after being confronted. The officers were unable to locate the suspect and Orem police continued their investigation.

Hover board disturbance

Dec. 31-An officer responded to the Computer Science Building, where four juveniles on “hover boards” were causing a disturbance. The officer found that their guardian was nearby, conducting some work. They were asked not to ride their boards in the building.

Underage drinker

Dec. 31-An underage man was found consuming alcohol in the UCCU Center parking lot. The responding officer cited him and released him.

Snowplow accident

Jan. 4-Dispatch reported to a parking lot, where a snowplow truck had backed into a cement pole. A report was filed.

Suspicious man

Jan. 4-A suspicious man was reported in the computer lab on the second floor of the Sorensen Center. The man told officers he was a UVU employee and no further action was reported.
