The Women’s Softball team fell short to No. 24 Oregon Friday at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego, but they wasted no time in their second game of the day defeating LMU by the score of 6-2 to end the day 1-1.

Brooke Salli pitched an outstanding game as she only allowed three total hits and two runs. Megan Gibbs hit her third home run of the season and Hawker Libbie ended the game with 2 RBI’s.

It was a rough start defensively for the Wolverines as they allowed one run to come in after a costly ball thrown over the first-baseman. Libbie Walker came out on fire. After a base hit to first she stole base to second and then came in to score at home after an RBI single by Kalena Shepherd.

The Wolverines started to dominate in the batting category outscoring the lions 4-0 through the next three Innings. Britney Moreno started the run for Utah Valley by hitting a double to left field. Rylee Thorpe then singled to third base, allowing Moreno to come in and score to extend the lead.

The 5th Inning was a hitting clinic for the Wolverines as they landed four players on base and a total of two runs. With the bases loaded, Thorpe was able to bring in those two runs off of a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to center field, which extended the score to 5-2 heading into the 6th.

Salli continued to tear it up in the pitching game and to seal the deal, Gibbs hit a single run homer deep into left field.

The Lions couldn’t get anything going in the 7th and fell short to the Wolverines 6-2. This improves their record to 3-4 on the year. They hope to keep the momentum going in the Campbell/Cartier Classic as they have a two-game stretch Tomorrow Feb. 18th, where they will face UC Riverside and San Diego St.
