This fall, the Concert Choir has more than 70 members, varying from freshman to seniors, with a motivated attitude and a passion for singing.
This choir meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00-1:50 p.m. in GT 416. Connie Jensen is the instructor, with the help of her training music conductor, Ted Long. Concert choir is a non-auditioned ensemble and one of four choirs at UVU. All singers are welcome, regardless of skill level.
The choir represents UVU and helps promote the school and the music department in a positive manner. Members are required to show commitment to the ensemble by actively participating during class, being prepared and learning music outside of class.
“I love singing; I love making music with people who love being here as much as I do,” said Trevor Hall, a sophomore in the Music program.
Jensen has been teaching at UVU for 10 years in the Music department with three different classes: voice, group voice and vocal performance. She already has master’s degree in Vocal Performance and Choral Conducting, and is finishing up a master’s degree in Music at the University of Utah.
“There is nothing besides music that I want to do,” said Jensen.
The UVU concert choir started out with 12 people and has grown since steadily with numbers ranging from 50 to over 70. Members of the choir will increase their skill as singers and musicians. Music and participation is the motivation for these students.
“It’s something that I love to do. It has so much diversity. The professionalism and atmosphere is so inviting,” said Amber Simons, a Music major.
This choir class is actively engaged to make the best out their music and upcoming performances. During class, the members are excited and motivated to work well together for success. They sing with passion and for the love of music.
“There is something about chorale music that is unlike others. Music is an art that comes to life; choir comes to life,” said Long.
Members of the choir agree that there is something special about music.
“I love singing as part of something,” said Kim Durtschi.
Jake Galovich explained that “being able to share a talent with others that sing motivates me.”
