A Dying Need for good music

April 20, 2009 Greg Wilcox 0

Russell Lee, founder and lead man for the band This Dying Need, wants to mix things up a little bit in the music scene. “Everyone is on a Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz kick. Still. It’s getting out of control,” Lee says, clearly exasperated. This Dying Need manages to set itself apart from the monotonous music scene in various ways.

Thousands of Tulips Color Thanksgiving Point

April 20, 2009 Loraine Gholdston 0

The Annual Tulip Festival is back at Thanksgiving Point Gardens, with almost a hundred different kinds of tulips as well as hyacinths and daffodils. Planted among them are colorful pansies and other cheerful annuals. The late winter caused some concern about the flowers blooming on time, and many of the tulips have yet to bloom- but there are plenty of tulips already in full bloom.

Diet Experiment – Part 2 of 3

April 13, 2009 Shaylene Nistler 0

Finding my motivation to continue on the HCG diet program was easy after experiencing a dramatic loss of weight in the first 5 days. I’m beginning to think maybe it’s NOT too good to be true. As outlined in Dr. A.T.W. Simeons’ manuscript entitled Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity, the HCG program includes a 500 calorie diet limiting food selections down to 26 liquids, fruits, vegetables and breads — eliminating dairy completely.

Mountain Man Rendezvous Dependent on Weather

April 13, 2009 Loraine Gholdston 0

The Mountain Man Rendezvous, with its iconic teepee, primitive weapons and various skins, was scheduled to take place last weekend in the UVU courtyard. But whether the always-outdoor event will happen or not depends on the forecast; and as of print time it is calling for rain.

Toadies coming to Salt Lake

April 13, 2009 Greg Wilcox 0

Since their formation in 1989, the Toadies have achieved a solid fan base. Many fans remain stoked on the band’s raw yet catchy brand of alternative rock, along with the intense energy that front-man Todd Lewis exudes in live performance. But if you saw the Toadies in person, you would probably never guess that they would be the ones playing their music onstage.

Sex-isms

April 6, 2009 Mel Sundquist 0

Secrets are generally thought of as nefarious. However guilt and shame are not the only reasons to keep something, specifically a relationship, out of the public eye. Confidential trysts can be fun and emotionally fulfilling. The bad reputation surrounding classified connections has become a self-fulfilling prophecy, taking away the public’s chance to view an undisclosed romantic association as a privilege and a rare opportunity.

New music alert

April 6, 2009 Susan Clercx 0

Baton Rouge-based band Benjy Davis Project opened a window to their world with the November 4 album release, Dust, melding elements of folk, country, and pop into a sound that practically begs to be played on a cross-country road trip. The folk-anthem style is reminiscent of sun-bleached memories and over-grown prairie grasses tucking in the dusty back-roads at sunset while the warm breeze carries wisps of hair across your face in a place where everyone knows your name.

Diet Experiment – Part 1 of 3

April 6, 2009 Shaylene Nistler 0

If you could describe the perfect diet, my guess is it probably wouldn’t include stabbing yourself with a needle 40 times, eating only 500 calories per day, picking from a list of only 26 foods, or paying $500 dollars for a derivative from pregnant woman’s urine to place into your blood stream.
