Three Days of Rain set to open

The Pinnacle acting company is producing the play Three Days of Rain, written by Richard Greenberg. Three Days of Rain has been performed around the country and has received rave reviews. Some critics even suggest it is worthy of a Pulitzer Prize. The Sugar Space theatre is a good choice for this three character play, as it works best on an intimate stage.

Dr. Bob Rasmussen, Dean of Students, sees it all. The students who visit him range from those who want to start clubs to ones who are struggling with medical challenges. The issues they face might be roommate arguments or they could be student arrests. He engages hundreds of new students during the orientation sessions, but his job description also involves taking the time to help individuals.

Mode Boutique, Provo’s only high-end fashion store, represented a mecca of style within the downtown area. But, as Mode co-owner Becca Neely states, business-as-usual stopped going so well. “Business just died. In order to orient the campus community to the services it has to offer, the UVU library is using the format of this longtime favorite to host a competition.

Arab-Israeli peace negotiations

The Obama Administration is set to unveil its much-anticipated plan for establishing a sustainable peace between Israelis and Palestinians at a pivotal point in the conflict. Among the key points expected to dominate the negotiations are the issues of settlements, the barrier wall, Jerusalem, house demolitions and confiscation of land, Palestinian refugees, access to water and borders.

Indebted to one man’s progressive vision

Wilson Sorenson, the second president of UVU and longest-tenured at 36 years, passed away Thursday July 30 at the age of 92. Sorenson pioneered the way for UVU and was able to witness each phase of the school’s many transitions since the beginning of his involvement in 1941.

Holland’s newly appointed assistant

Kyle Reyes, UVU staff and community service volunteer was said to be ‘the glue of campus’ in July when he accepted the position as Director of Student Success and Retention. Reyes set the focus of the dean’s presence on campus toward informing, listening to, supporting and engaging of students in order to help them achieve their goals.

Rallying for access to public lands

Utah residents and public officials, joined by members of the Utah State Legislature held one of Utah’s largest political rallies on Capital Hill on Aug. 8 in an effort to reclaim public lands that have been unlawfully seized by the Federal Government. The rally began with citizens who had traveled long distances just to let their voices be heard.

Action is greater than apathy

Making a new aluminum can from an old one saves 95 percent of the total energy required to make one from scratch. In short, recycling one aluminum can saves as much energy as you use by leaving a 100W light bulb on for 8 hours. Facts such as this are the fundamental concern of The Sustainability Committee, who is teaming up with many campus organizations in order to create a more environmentally friendly establishment.

Fundamental firefighting

There is a fully involved residential fire in your city, the bite is, the fire team is on their way, and you are the fire captain in charge of managing the entire crew and saving civilian lives. Professional firefighters across Utah will have more preparation for scenarios such as this because of the new mobile training facility recently presented by the Utah Fire & Rescue Academy (UFRA).

THE LOTS Purple (V): Free Lot The free lot is the farthest parking lot away from all of the school buildings. Though free, you still need a permit to park here. Shuttle busses that take you to different stops around the school leave the bus stop in the South end of the lot at random intervals Monday – Thursday 7am to 10pm, and from 7am to 4pm on Fridays but are not always reliable.
