Bicycle Commuting

Gas prices, traffic, obesity, and parking problems are some of the things that Luke Stevenson doesn’t have to deal with. Why? Because he commutes by bicycle. Other colleges and universities have made pushes to green up their campuses by getting their students on bikes.

I was reading the latest issue of the paper and I was pleased to see something out of the ordinary in the sports section: humor. Editor-in-Chief Jack Waters wrote a piece about Ryan Toolson missing two free throws. The idea sounds average at best; however, Waters made me almost snort milk out my nose with his witty humor.

Heart healthy and wholesome

Let’s talk about education. This education thing keeps us strong, aware, smart, and sharp to the point. Our education system and the subjects taught within have been critically analyzed, tested, reformed, reworked, so that all kinks are straightened out. It now functions so efficiently it’s turning out the deepest of thinkers — an elite class of humans ready to take on any intellectual challenge.

New UTA electronic fare system starts in January

As the new year rolls around, so will the Utah Transit Authority’s (UTA) new electronic fare collection system (EFC). Starting Jan. 1, bus riders will be required to tap their card against an electronic reader when boarding and tap off when exiting a bus or train platform.

Seeing the structure

The College of Technology and Computing and the Department of Construction Technology presented their proposal to create a new Bachelor of Arts program to the Board of Trustees on Nov. 13. The creation of a new BA degree in Construction Management has been a focus for the last two years as Utah Valley University has seen a gradual decline in its enrollment rates for trade-based curriculum.

Student public relations firm: a real class with real clients

The Communications Department added a new course to their lineup this semester; the course is so popular that the department increased the number of students from 30 to 50. The course, the Student Public Relations Firm, is a student-run P.R. firm that allows students to obtain practical knowledge and working experience of public relations by working with real clients.

Police beat

Dec. 1- Disorderly Conduct – A 46-year-old male was issued a citation for disorderly conduct after he was observed stalking a female during the Utah Flash game at the McKay Events Center. The suspect was also barred from the McKay Event Center for the rest of the 2008-2009 game season.

PBA Conversations

For the past five years an evaluation of the school and conversations about planning, budgeting, and accountability (PBA) have occurred. According to the PBA Guidebook, “All divisions, schools, colleges, and departments (units) are charged to annually review and update plans, develop initiates for the next one to three years, and assess activities of the past year.
