This weekend UVU host the La Quinta Inn & Suites Intuitional. In their Home opener Utah Valley’s volleyball played lost to Idaho State. The match took place on Friday night in the PE Building and was lost in three tightly contested sets with scores of 22-25, 24-26, 22-25.

The first set had neither team seeming to come out ahead. When the score became all knotted up at 14-all Lauren Bakker and Kiahna Steiner  lead the Wolverines with back-to-back blocks and started a four point streak to take the advantage. ISU answered right back as they managed to tie the set again at 20-20. The Bengals then proceeded to take the frame by scoring five of the final seven point in the set.

Idaho State jumped out in the lead durning the early stages of the second set (8-3). On a number of occasions the Wolverines brought the score to within one and finally managed to fully close the gap at 20-all with a kill from Macky Treanor. Both teams volleyed the score back and forth for the majority of the set. ISU’s Mackenzie Filler and Alydia Feilds-Grimm picked up a pair of late consecutive kills to take the frame.

UVU hit the court ready to rally as they took a quick 6-2 lead. The Wolverines kept the advantage through the score getting to 10-7 when the Bengals struck back with five straight points to take a 12-10 lead. From there Idaho State managed to stay strong as UVU hit a late run. The Wolverine’s efforts weren’t enough and the set and match went to ISU.

The next game for the Wolverines in the home tournament will take place on Saturday at 12:00p.m. MT as they face off against UC Riverside.
