NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Utah Valley’s Sarah Clement and Houston Baptist’s Jasmine Casey have been named Great West Conference Volleyball Players of the Week after outstanding performances last week. The honors were announced Tuesday by the conference office.

The defensive award went to Clement who helped lead the Wolverines to a road victory over two-time defending conference champion North Dakota with seven block assists. Clement also averaged 1.75 blocks per set and didn’t commit a block error as she helped the Wolverines start their conference season 1-0.

The middle blocker from Lindon, Utah, also added eight kills and three digs in the victory over the Fighting Sioux.

The defensive honor is Clement’s second of the season as she was previously awarded by the conference on Aug. 30.

Casey, a freshman from Friendswood, Texas, hit .314 and recorded her second double-double of the season with a career-high 22 kills along with 17 digs in last Thursday’s 3-1 victory at NJIT.

On Saturday, the outside hitter hit .421 at Chicago State as the Huskies started 2-0 on the road in conference play.

Others nominated for the offensive award were Julia Colombo (NJIT), Nikki Husfeldt (North Dakota), Ijanae Holman (Texas-Pan American) and Chelsey Heaps (Utah Valley). Defensive nominees included Courtney Whittleman (Houston Baptist) and Taylor Bohannon (North Dakota)
