Neurologists are doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating nervous system disorders. A new one just came to town.
Michigan native Dr. Joanne Link joined the ranks of physicians at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo this month.
She comes to UVRMC on the heels of the recent certification of their stroke program. She will mainly focus on treating patients afflicted with serious neurological conditions, including stroke.
"Neurologists are in short supply across the country. We are delighted to have Dr. Link at Utah Valley Regional. She has an incredibly rich background, having trained at some top-tier programs. Our patients and the community will be well served by this addition to our medical staff," said Dr. Neil Whitaker, the regional medical director.
Link indeed has a distinguished history in medicine. She obtained her medical degree from the Aristotelion University in Greece and continued her education by attending the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, where she graduated with a neuroimmunology doctorate degree.
From there, she completed her residency in Houston, Texas at the Baylor College of Medicine, and in Tampa at the University of South Florida.
She returned to Sweden to fill a fellowship in clinical neuroimmunology, then went on to fill two other fellowships in the U.S.: one in behavioral neurology at Harvard Medical School-McLean Hospital and the other in neuro-rehabilitation at Cornell University-Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.
Most recently, Link served as the assistant professor of Neuropsychiatry at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.
