The new library has made space for a visual arts lab. The lab will provide a way for students to complete their more complicated and professional art projects.
The lab is available to students, employees and members of the community. It has scanners, copiers and lamination machines of all sizes. There are also die-cut machines and cutting boards to help every project look professional.
This lab will not replace the copy center in the Student Center. It will, however, carry different weights and finishes of paper. Also, projects will be completed by lab users, versus the copy center’s drop off and pick up operation.
A jump drive is the best way to bring a project to the lab. Printing dimensions can be up to 44 inches wide, and as long as needed. Projects should be complete when brought to the lab.
In the lab, one can use any of the machines at no cost; payments are made only for any supplies used. “The lab is not here to make money; it is here to try to make projects more cost effective for students,” said Michael Lybbert, visual arts lab supervisor.
Lybbert received his BFA in Graphic Design and will be using his experience to assist lab users. There will also be lab assistants to answer any questions and to give advice.
The lab’s computers are not strictly for working on projects, but a computer lab on the second floor of the library is more properly equipped with computer programs to aid any graphic arts projects.
The lab is located on the second floor of the library, directly across from the writing lab. Payments are accepted in cash only. The lab is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
