Aeropostale’s third annual Teens for Jeans event started Jan. 19 and will continue through Feb. 14. The clothing company collects gently worn jeans and donates them to local homeless shelters and charities to assist people in the community.
This year as a result of the recent earthquake in Haiti, Aeropostale will match the first 100,000 jeans they receive and send an additional 200,000 pairs to help with relief efforts.
“I believe that many students would jump at the chance to go to Haiti and help with the relief efforts, but of course it is not a reality for most of us,” said Kristi Petersen, president of the History and Political Science Club.
Aeropostale accepts any brand or style of jeans from child to adult sizes. There are drop boxes on campus located in the Liberal Arts building, Student Center and Woodbury Business Building. Aeropostale is showing thanks for the donations by giving students a coupon for 25 percent off a new pair of Aero jeans for each pair they donate. Students can pick up coupons at the drop boxes.
“The Teens for Jeans service project seemed like a great way to help,” said Petersen, “because we could personally donate and spread the word to our fellow students to donate.”
