Letter to the editor

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Dear Editor,I feel a need to reply to an editorial article that was posted in the Opinions section of the Oct. 22 College Times. The titled "Incriminated by our Culture," by Eleanor Cleverly-Takahashi caught my attention as I am particularly interested in discussions on firearms in our culture, and I have to say the article was laughable.

Mormons should judge Reid by faith, not politics

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

It is ironic the way Mitt Romney and Harry Reid are represented in the Mormon faith. On one hand, you have the ever-loveable Mitt. Good looking, charming and most importantly, Republican-the kind of guy Saints like…no, love to proclaim as one of their own.

Wide open

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Every ending could very well be a new beginning, and with the regular season out of the way for Utah Valley, the United Soccer Conference Tournament may be the fresh start the Wolverines are looking for. The old sports cliché of throwing out the records couldn’t be truer in the Wolverines situation this season.

One of the favorites

Home field advantage is supposed to help a team, but until the women’s soccer team played a couple of United Soccer Conference games at the end of the season on Wolverine Field, the comforts of home weren’t doing the job. Before Utah Valley’s game against the New Jersey Institute of Technology, a 5-0 Wolverine win, the team was outscored 10-1 on its home turf.

Taking home a championship

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

It was a dominating day for Utah Valley cross country as both the men and the women posted six top-10 finishes en route to sweeping the team competitions and becoming Independent Champions. The team wins mark the second consecutive meet that both Wolverine squads have taken home first place.

On cruise control

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

It wasn’t long ago that Utah Valley was the defeated team on the wrong side of a lopsided win. But things have changed since the program started three years ago. Seth Armitage led the way for the Wolverines in their crushing 25-2 win over BYU-Idaho the day after Metro State fell 10-1 to the Wolverines.

Top-20 on minds of wrestlers

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Andrew ReevesSports ContributorUVSC has one of the only sanctioned wrestling programs in the region and the only wrestling program in the state.  What does that mean for the program? Top recruiting.  Never was that more apparent than at the annual green and gold wrestle off at the Shurian Family Activity Center last week to kick of the 2007-08 season.

Unwrapping another season

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Success has this year’s basketball season nicely wrapped up waiting to be opened. And the best presents are always the ones that are better than the year before-but that can leave a lot to live up to. As is the case with the 2007-08 men’s basketball team after Chris Bailey, Peter Brown, David Heck, and Matt Peterson helped Utah Valley to the best Independent record (22-7) since Notre Dame (23-6) in 1986.

Women’s basketball preview

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Thanks to a scheduling conflict for Utah Valley’s women’s basketball team, a window of opportunity opened up for the Wolverines. On Dec. 18, the lady Wolverines will travel to Durham, North Carolina to take on the Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Power and grace lead Wolverines on the court

November 5, 2007 Fomer Staff Writer 0

Having a player that emerges as a leader on the basketball court is common. What’s uncommon for Utah Valley’s men’s and women’s teams is that they both have bona fide leaders who have been leaders since their freshman seasons.Juniors Ryan Toolson and Robyn Fairbanks have starred on the court for a few seasons now, with Toolson’s LDS mission intervening between his freshman and sophomore seasons.
