It’s probably happened to you before, after a long day at school and/or work, you get home to realize that you only have ten minutes to prepare for that big date. How to Transition

February 9, 2009 0

Relationships are tricky. There are ups and downs are expected and sometimes relationships move into different stages. Taking the plunge requires a transition period, as does the ending of a long-term relationship. Jennie Nicholls takes you through the process of change from being single to getting engaged and Dave Iba recounts the steps to reviving yourself in case your marriage turns sour.

Embrace your inner killjoy

February 9, 2009 0

Unrequited or otherwise, we victims of love are much maligned. For malcontents and those who prefer doing more than sitting at home complaining about being single, here are some ideas to find contentment on a day when lovers remind us that we don’t have it.

Say it with flowers

February 9, 2009 0

Nothing says “I love you” or “I care about you” like a copious bouquet of flowers – especially around Valentine’s Day. If you decide to give flowers to a loved one this holiday, be sure to not be one of those last minute buyers waiting in line at the flower shop, scrambling to procure the leftovers.

The week of love

February 9, 2009 Mel Sundquist 0

Valentine’s day is coming up on Saturday, and until then students are sure to be bombarded from every avenue with hearts, naked babies with wings, chocolate, and flowers. For some, this week is an ethereal time, devoted to love. And you know we love love. For others, Valentine’s day is just a reminder that you’re alone, with happy couples shoving their collective joy in your forsaken face.

Fancy a spot o’ tea?

February 9, 2009 Jena van Frankenhuijsen 0

Take a step back in time and a jump over to England as you walk into the lavishly decorated “parlour” of the Beehive Tea Room. The decor is Victorian eclectic style, which sets the perfect ambiance for Afternoon Tea. One may enjoy a simple lunch of soup and a sandwich, or perhaps a coffee and cake.

Jenn’s Dusty Shelf

February 9, 2009 Jennie Nicholls-Smith 0

Dolores O’Riordan’s voice is one of the most recognizable female voices in rock; O’Riordan may well be the reason The Cranberries earned much of their success in the mid 1990s. The band’s most commercially successful album, No Need to Argue sold over seven million albums in the United States and is popularly recognized as the couch album, as the cover art and album notes all contain the band sitting on an old plaid couch in various locations.

If you haven’t read it …

February 9, 2009 Jason Gibbons 0

February is a great month to read Mark Twain’s classic, Pudd’nhead Wilson. Twain had a newspaper man’s eye for details and a sharp wit which he never hesitated to employ. Twain’s literature satirized the American life and reflected the absurd in a way that popular television shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report still successfully mimic.

Gaslight Anthem – The ’59 Sound

February 9, 2009 David Fullmer 0

As I watched the Super Bowl this past weekend, Bruce Springsteen played a few of his favorite songs during the halftime show. Fans chanted along as “Born to Run” came over the speakers as well as “Glory Days”, and it seemed that the only thing missing was a frothy mug of beer in everyone’s hand.

Game Of The Year 2008

February 9, 2009 Jonathan Poole 0

Regardless your gaming platform of choice, it’s safe to say that 2008 was one hell of a year for video games. The quality and range of titles and genres represented was truly inspiring and there really was something for everyone. Whether you rocked out with any of the multiple Guitar Hero iterations, explored Fallout 3’s irradiated wasteland, or swayed in time with Wii Fit’s virtual hula hoop, finding a good game last year should have been pretty easy.
