Nothing can ruin a friendship faster than having a friend think that your friendship means that they can get you a great deal on life insurance, cosmetics, home security or on high-end cutlery. Large and profitable local companies like Nu Skin, Xango, and Tahitian Noni not only offer you a great deal on these products, but they are also giving you a great opportunity to join their team and to make the big bucks for yourself! Or so you think. Some call it direct selling, others call it multi-level marketing, while many call it a pyramid scheme.

Single payer=single right answer

I don’t like Obama’s plan, for some of the same reasons as much more conservative thinkers. But standard critiques of the plan’s problems are precisely backwards. One problem with our current system is that it puts the burden on the business to provide insurance.

Wilson Sorenson, second president of UVU, passes away at 92

Wilson Sorenson, former president of UVU, has passed away at 92, a few days before his 93rd birthday.

Utah Student 25 looking for student entrepreneurs

Academic and corporate leaders met in the beginning of July to launch Utah Student 25 to recognize the 25 fastest-growing student businesses in the state of Utah. Utah Student 25 is an awards program designed to celebrate the achievements of student entrepreneurs, the businesses they have created, and their economic impact.

Students express their feelings on kissing protest

UVU students joined in one of many protests on Sun. July 19 in response to the citation of two men kissing on LDS Church property at the beginning of the month. According to a statement released by the church on the matter, Derek Jones and Matt Aune were detained by LDS security guards for “engaging in inappropriate behavior,” and then cited for trespassing by Salt Lake police on July 8.

Minority students get involved with UVU Hospitality

Latino high school students from the Wasatch area have the opportunity to attend concurrent enrollment courses in hospitality offered by the Wasatch Campus Hospitality Leaders of Tomorrow to help stimulate the economy of Park City. The program is designed to help eligible students gain vocational training in the field of hospitality and earn six college credits over the five-week course.

New professor awarded Fulbright Scholarship

UVU Professor of marketing, Paul Dishman, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and research at the University of Donja Gorica (UDG) in Montenegro during Spring 2010. “The purpose of the Fulbright Program is to bring American cultural exchange down to a very personal level, for both the scholars and those they touch in the host country,” Dishman said.

New MBA Graduate Program approved

UVU’s new Master of Business Administration Program was unanimously approved by the Utah State Board of Regents July 17, 2009 and is scheduled to launch in fall 2010. “There has been an incredible demand for this program,” said Scott Hammond, an associate professor of business management and assistant academic vice president in the Office of Academic Affairs.

Israeli Settlements in the West Bank

More than 300,000 Israeli settlers are living in illegal settlements built on Palestinian land, which has been occupied since the War of 1967 when Israel captured the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. International law states that an occupying power cannot transfer its own civilian population to the territory it occupies.

Distance Education provides convenient alternatives

It has become essential for many students to incorporate Distance Education into their schedule whether their time is consumed with activities, work or a family. Distance Education (DE) is UVU’s way of catering to students without sufficient time available to take courses on campus.
