With everything happening in the lives of UVU students, it’s easy to miss some of the events happening on and off campus, and hard to keep an eye on the calendar.

Along with these event calendars, here are some things that you may have missed this past week.

 

Wednesday Nov. 2

World

61st anniversary of a 300,000-strong Chinese Army ambushing South Korean and American force.

 

National

A ballot was voted on in Ohio, Mississippi, and Virginia over collective-bargaining rights for public workers.

 

Utah

Utah Dance Company had their closing night’s presentation of Pioneer Legacy.

 

Thursday Nov 3

World

Greek Prime Minister Papandreou refused to step down as opposition leaders demanded.

 

National

“Occupy Oakland” protestors vandalize business as violent riots break out.

 

Utah

Professors at Utah State University recieved $184,000 in federal grants for the International Research & Exchange Board’s Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program.

 

Friday Nov. 4

World

Olympus, a Japanese security company, admitted to hiding financial losses over the past 20 years.

 

National

The Labor Department reported the creation of 80,000 jobs during the month of October.

 

Utah

Police are searching for a Utah man who returned to the state after avoiding prison in a novel way: claiming illegal immigrant status and being deported to Mexico.

World

Britain celebrated its 406th annual Guy Fawkes’ Day.

 

National

40,000 people signed with credit unions on “Bank Transfer Day”

 

UVU

UVU hosted the Miss United Nations pageant.

 

Sunday Nov. 6

National

Thousands of protestors surrounded the White House to protest the creation of the controversial Keystone pipeline.

 

Utah

Eagle Mountain is considering buying land from Saratoga Springs to provide water for planned growth.

 

SPORTS

Dallas Cowboy’s receiver Miles Austin injured his hamstring again in a game against the Seahawks.

 

MONDAY Nov. 7

World

Tunisians celebrated the first Nov. 7 in 24 years without President Ben Ali by voting.

 

National

Two protestors in the “Occupy Philadelphia” movement married at the information booth they’ve manned for the last two months.

 

Utah

Springville Playhouse performed for the last time in the old civic center.

 

UVU

Police ended the chase of a wanted man on UVU campus.

 

LIFE

The International Festival kicked off in the Grande Ballroom with a jungle-esque theme. 

 

SPORTS

Jimmer Fredette and other NBA stars played against the Utah Jazz for charity in Salt Lake City. The Jazz won.

 

Tuesday Nov. 8

World

A PA system faux pas led to a group of journalists overhearing U.S. President Obama and French Prime Minister Sarkozy trash-talking Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

 

National

In the past four days, Oklahoma has experienced 29 earthquakes, ranging up to 5.6 on the Richter scale.

 

Utah

After boosting revenue 16% in a flagging economy, Orem’s own Mity-Lite was named Manufacturer of the Year by the Utah Manufacturer’s Association.

 

UVU

UVU professors, joined by “Occupy Provo” protestors held a question-and-answer in Provo Library.

 

LIFE

The mammoth production of Carmina Burana, involving over 300 UVU students, showed for the last time this semester at Orem High.

 

SPORTS

UVU volleyball star Chelsea Heaps made 13 kills for a victory over Southern Utah.
