While the UVU Spring 2012 semester may be winding down, Utah Department of Transportation crews are maintaining steady progress on the I-15 CORE project. UDOT officials urge drivers to pay particular attention to specific areas this week that may interfere with regular traffic flow:

  • University Parkway
  • Orem 800 North
  • American Fork 500 East
  • Provo Center Street
  • Spanish Fork, U.S. 6 and Main Street

Signal work, ramp reconstruction and paving will cause the closure of all east-west traffic at the University Parkway interchange, as well as the southbound on- and off-ramps beginning Saturday, April 14 at 9:00 p.m. and lasting until Monday, April 16 at 5:30 a.m. While the on- and off-ramps for northbound I-15 will remain open, drivers are encouraged to use Orem or Provo Center Street interchanges for southbound freeway access. During these closures, northbound traffic on I-15 will be restricted to two lanes surrounding the University Parkway interchange for concrete paving.

Nightly bridge work, overhead sign construction and permanent lane marking will cause ramp closures at the Orem 800 North interchange. The southbound on-ramp will close on April 16, the southbound off-ramp on April 18 and the northbound off-ramp on April 20. All closures are scheduled from 9:00 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Drivers should use Orem Center Street or 1600 North interchanges as alternates during the closures.

With the completion of the American Fork 500 East interchange anticipated at the end of June, there are only a few more nightly closures at this interchange of which drivers should be aware. The southbound off-ramp will close April 15 and 17, the northbound traffic on 500 East will be closed April 16 and 17 and the southbound traffic on 500 East will be closed on April 17. Permanent lane marking installation will cause full closures of the interchange on a nightly basis beginning this weekend and lasting each subsequent weekend until through May 5. These closures will last from Friday at 10:00 p.m. until Sunday at 7:30 a.m.

Ramp and lane placement, including concrete pouring and curing, will cause closure of the Provo Center Street northbound on-ramp for 40 days, starting as early as April 16. Once the on-ramp is complete, it will be reopened, after which the northbound off-ramp will be closed for an additional 40 days. Drivers are encouraged to use University Avenue or University Parkway to avoid this area. Click here for alternate routes during the closures.

The Spanish Fork Main Street southbound on-ramp will remain closed through April 24. While no further closures are expected in the coming week, many will develop as the project moves toward completion. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed to plan sufficient travel time and avoid congestion. Click here for alternate routes, and be sure to watch the video (below) for a comprehensive update on the area.
