But had their season come to a close on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 17, against Seattle University due to penalty kicks. The Redhawks then earned the WAC title and an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
In penalty kicks, it came down to who was going to miss first after five shots each. Jensen came up with another huge save to give UVU a chance to win the match with just one more goal. The goal-scoring hero ended up being sophomore forward Zahir Vazquez.

“Well these seven seniors have done an incredible amount for this program, they’ve continued to build on the foundation, you know, kind of set the standard and expectation for our underclassmen,” said UVU head coach Greg Maas. “I couldn’t be more proud of our response today on senior day, traditionally we’ve struggled on this day.”

Senior forward Blake Frischknecht tallied the final goal of the evening for the Wolverines, which gave him the UVU single-season record for goals scored. It was his 10th on the season and broke the tie of nine with Skyler Milne in 2015 and Paul Hoffmeister in 2016.
“I’m at a loss for words and gutted for our team — two lapses in discipline were the difference in today’s match,” UVU head coach Greg Maas said to reporters. “I couldn’t ask for a better start; up a goal, and even down a man, I didn’t think we’d relinquish our lead. Unfortunately, we can’t put the referee in a position to make a call in that moment. We’ll put this behind us, learn from it, and get ready for a welcomed return to Clyde Field.”
The controversy here though was just before scoring, the refs had blown their whistle to signal that Wood had been offsides, and that his goal didn’t count. Upon further review the referees declared that their call was faulty and that SJSU’s goal would stand, now leading 1-0.

“Good teams learn how to win when they don’t play well,” said UVU head coach Greg Maas. “To be honest, I don’t think we played great, but we did show great spirit and good fight to grind out a win against a good team that had a little extra rest then we did.”
“It’s my job you know what I mean, it’s my job as a forward to score goals,” said Frischknecht. “Last year I think I ended up with six and I was the leading scorer, so I didn’t think that was good enough for me.”
