The bitter cold wasn’t enough to stop 1.8 million Americans from attending the inauguration of the United States’ new president, Barack Obama. “Today, I say to you that the challenges we face are real,” Mr. Obama said in his inaugural address, delivered from the west front of the Capitol, to over nearly two million people.

Sundance 2009 Film Reviews

January 26, 2009 Luke Hickman 0

Locally, the Sundance Film Festival is known for overcrowding Park City with rubberneckers on the prowl for celebrity sightings. The chance of getting into film screenings is usually slim – even if do you hold out in the freezing cold wait-list lines. However, this year was a little different than expected.

Slumdog Millionaire

January 26, 2009 Matthew Jonassaint 0

When Slumdog Millionaire was announced the winner of the Golden Globes for Best Picture, it was lavished with glowing Oscar predictions. But acclaimed novelist Salman Rushdie told the New York Times that he wasn’t a fan of the film, saying the storyline felt implausible, “And I’m the only person who thinks this,” he added.

January 26, 2009 Mel Sundquist 0

The Covey Center’s latest musical, Polly, is a family affair. Polly encompasses one woman’s entire lifetime of memories in two acts.

Jenn’s Dusty Shelf

January 26, 2009 Jennie Nicholls-Smith 0

Green Day rarely gains respect outside of the albums Dookie and American Idiot. But I have to respectfully disagree and claim that Nimrod is the album that proves the band’s importance. Although the tacky track, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” is probably the only track on the album still getting airplay, the album truly has some good tunes that were reluctantly looked over.

Cold war games in the Ragan

January 26, 2009 Mel Sundquist 0

Producing Chess is an ambitious choice, even for venues with funding and resources that greatly outnumber those available at UVU. Therefore, the UVU theater department’s choice to put on the show seemed pretty shocking. Chess, written by MAMMA MIA composers Bj?rn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, along with lyricist Tim Rice, is filled with taxing vocals for both the ensemble and leading characters.
