UVU’s Julie McMurray enjoys breakout season

Currently averaging 19 points per game, McMurray hits three-pointers like Ryan Toolson hits free throws. McMurray, a junior studying P.E. teaching and exercise science, is referred to as the ‘hustle’ of the team.

Especially when the Wolverines shot 56.4 percent from the field, a season-high 26 assists and 31 made field goals to give UVU two straight wins for the first time this season. Denver came out early with the hot hand, but the Wolverines played tight defense.

Ingram put 55 percent of his shots in the basket and contributed 17 points in the second half alone. Heading into the season the Wolverines appeared to be a possible 20-win team. As that goal appears bleak the question remains as to whether the team has underachieved so far.

Reading Time: 2 minutes UVU evens record at NDSU The Utah Valley University men’s basketball team dropped to 8-8 on the year Tuesday after a 71-98 loss at North Dakota State (13-5). NDSU is the current leader of the Summit League. Senior guard Ryan Toolson led the Wolverines with 27 points on the night and chipped in three rebounds and three assists.

Reading Time: 3 minutes The first week into President Obama’s term, he has started the process of delivering on his campaign promises of bringing change to America. During his first full day in office, Obama officially announced his intention to close the United States’ detention center in Guantanamo Bay and by the end of his second full day in office had signed three Executive Orders stipulating that the detention center be closed within one year, ordering the closure of other secret and not so secret CIA detention facilities around the globe, ordering a review of military trials of detained, suspected terrorists, and halting the use of harsh and torturous interrogation practices until US measures initiated by the Bush Administration’s War on Terror can be reviewed.

Reading Time: 2 minutes Clint Eastwood’s new film, Gran Torino, is the story of Walt Kowalski (played by Eastwood), a veteran of the Korean War and a retired automotive worker, who becomes caught up in both the culture and struggles of his Hmong neighbors. The film has managed to generate a fair amount of controversy, due to Kowalski’s pervasive racism (Kowalski, in all fairness, is eventually shown to be more of a misanthrope than a racist).

Reading Time: < 1 minute Jan. 16 – DISORDLY CONDUCT – UVU Police responded to a report of a fight at College Drive in Orem. Officers arrived on the scene and found a male and female arguing while standing in the middle of the road. Both were charged with disorderly conduct.
