Congressman Bishop explains political ideology

Congressman Rob Bishop shared his thoughts with students Monday morning on how to develop a political philosophy. With perfectly coiffed gray hair and dark navy suit, he seemed a model Republican. As Congressman, Bishop represents Utah’s first district over Logan, Ogden, Farmington and parts of North Salt Lake City.

De facto Palestinian statehood

The Palestinian Authority has recently stated its intentions to form a de facto Palestinian state with or without the cooperation of Israel within two years. In a newly released 65-page document, significant changes to the Palestinian economy — which is currently being strangled by Israeli polices — and the construction of an international airport in the Jordan Valley are just two of the things outlined as being necessary for the move toward Palestinian statehood.

More health food on campus?

Dining Services, Student Health Services-Wellness Programs and Human Resources are sponsoring a healthy eating campaign beginning fall semester. As their first step toward healthy eating, nutritional information has been posted at all eating establishments around campus, including the main upstairs and downstairs cafeteria, all scattered food kiosks and Scoops.

Fiscal future of america conference caters to conservatives

Senator Orrin Hatch recently felt the need to organize and host a forum titled “The Fiscal Future of America,” wherein voters could ask questions and voice their concerns with regard to the country’s current economic state. “My office has received literally thousands of letters, phone calls, and e-mails from Utahns who are extremely concerned about America’s fiscal future,” stated Hatch in a press release.

Creative outlets promote conflict resolution

In honor of Conflict Resolution Day coming up on Oct. 15, The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) has announced the addition of two new contests intended to involve students and promote awareness. The ACR is an organization committed to improving the practice and community understanding of conflict resolution.

Global News Revamped strategy may heighten troop deployment Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal submitted a classified, revised strategic approach to the war in Afghanistan on Aug. 31 which may require more troops to be deployed. According to McChrystal’s public commentary, the report focuses on safeguarding civilians and subduing insurrection.

They are doctors, and they are mad as hell

The Peace and Justice Studies Program is excited to announce that on Saturday, Sept. 12, a new movement will make a stop at UVU to meet at 7 p.m. in SC 206c. Starting Sept. 8, a caravan of Oregon doctors will begin a trek toward the US capitol. Along the way, they are stopping off wherever there are people who will listen to their message.
