Choke on this

September 29, 2008 Luke Hickman 0

Ever since the release of Fight Club in ’99, more and more people have been turned on to the original, twisted and unbelievable writings of author Chuck Palahniuk. Each Palahniuk fan believes that every one of his books would make a perfect movie. The second movie adapted from one of his books premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Bigger than words, wider than pictures

September 29, 2008 Thomas Rackliffe 0

Poets have inflicted on society an inequitable untruth: that no matter the immensity of a scene, no matter the immediacy of a situation, words can adequately capture its essence. However, on Mogwai’s latest release, The Hawk is Howling, these prolific Scots have continued their efforts to unshackle meaning from the bondage of the word.

The good, the bad, and the snubbed

September 29, 2008 Luis R. Merino 0

For enthusiasts of any kind, there is usually a night where one year’s worth of hard work culminates into one moment of glory. The Super Bowl is this night for football fans, the last game of the NBA Finals for basketball followers, but for people like myself, die-hard television watchers, it’s the Primetime Emmy Awards, which aired live last week.

The Stand delivers

September 29, 2008 Benjamin Bailey 0

If you’ve ever read a Stephen King novel, you probably will not be surprised to hear that Marvel Comics has begun to adapt some of his most well known works into graphic novels. The twisted and unique stories King is known for are a perfect fit for the comic book world.

Shrivel up and die … of laughter

September 29, 2008 Mel Sundquist and Matthew A. J 0

D. Terry Petrie and Isaac Walters, the chair of and a lecturer for the theatrical arts department respectively, jump-started UVU’s theater season from summer by directing the best production we have ever seen on campus. Flies in the Snuffbox, collected 1880’s Russian comedy sketches by Anton Chekhov, is more than a successful production — it is unadulterated, enlightened entertainment.

Overtime magic expires in scoreless draw

September 22, 2008 Parker Donat 0

Coming back from two exciting overtime wins and having an untainted 3-0 record, the women’s soccer team held on in a double overtime to tie with Idaho State last week. With nearly 500 fans attending, the crowd was anxious for a repeat overtime goal. UVU had its chances to score, but resorted to solid defense to avoid defeat.

Great Falls knocks off defending champs Owlz

September 22, 2008 Matt Beaudin 0

After an impressive season that saw the Orem Owlz cruise to the best record in the league, win 14 games in a row and put out the league MVP in Roberto Lopez, they dropped the third and final game of the Pioneer League championship series to lose the title to the Great Falls Voyagers.

Making Headlines

September 22, 2008 defaultuser 0

Milwaukee mayhem In a bit of a rash decision, the Milwaukee Brewers fired their manager Ned Yost with just 12 games remaining on the Major League docket. Having started off to a miserable September, the Brewers’ management decided to fire Yost after his team had fallen into a tie for the N.

Intramurals: more than just fun and games

September 22, 2008 Kyle Jellings 0

At most universities the idea of intramural sports means major sports such as basketball, football, and soccer. Here at UVU we have that and much, much more. “Our events are designed with student engagement in mind,” said Bo Earls, director of intramurals and sport clubs.

Road Tested?

September 22, 2008 Matt Beaudin 0

One thing that’s always plagued UVU has been winning on the road. As the women’s soccer team heads out on its first road trip and the volleyball team takes off for yet another tough trip, the records of both teams may suffer.

Unfortunately for the Wolverines the best example of struggling on the road happened to be last seasons women’s basketball team.
