Gearing up for voter registration

Bringing the political process to Utah Valley University could not have better advocates than Miss UVU and the Student Government Chief Justice. In an effort to increase the number of students registered to vote this November, Tom Merrill, UVU’s student Chief Justice, teamed up with Christina Lowe, Miss UVU, to register students for the upcoming election.

UVU selected for VISTA volunteer

Through the new Community Outreach Program, Utah Valley University has created yet another way to provide service and support to students and others who may be in need. UVU and three other Utah schools have been selected by the AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America program (VISTA) to receive a full-time VISTA volunteer.

Police blotter Sept. 2008

Sept. 15 – FELONY THEFT – A laptop valued at more than $1300 was stolen from the Student Government offices when it was left unattended by the owner. UVU police recovered the laptop from a local pawnshop where it had been pawned. A 21-year-old male student was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail.

Student Health Services, located on the second floor of the Sorensen Student Center, is an on-campus health clinic that provides a variety of services requiring no health insurance, including medical exams, therapy sessions and wellness programs.

UVU hosts the 3rd Congressional District debate

Utah Valley University will host the 3rd Congressional District debate on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in UVU’s Grande Ballroom, located in the Student Center (SC). The intended participants include Bennion Spencer, Democrat; Jason Chaffetz, Republican; and Jim Noorlander, Constitution.

Career Fair brings employers to the students

Need an internship or a job? UVU Career Services & Student Employment (CSSE) will be hosting its biannual Internship & Career Fair Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sorensen Center Grande Ballroom. Around 70 to 80 employers will be looking for students to fill career and internship positions available now and in the near future.

Campus briefs: Pianist Jon Schmidt to perform at UVU: Utah Valley University presents the second annual fall concert, “An Evening with Jon Schmidt,” Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in UVU’s Ragan Theatre, located in the Sorensen Center (SC). The concert is provided by Envision, UVU’s Winter Guard Club, to raise money for traveling expenses to the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, in April 2009.
