Local couple share their love story to win dream engagement ring

Every love story hopes to have a “Brilliant Beginning” that will lead to the happy ever after.
For Brooke Porter and Garrett Wahlquist they found a way to add to their already beautiful love story, with Goldsmith Co. Jewelers’ “Brilliant Beginnings” contest. According to their Facebook page, Goldsmith is looking for that one love story, “the one that leads to a lifetime of romance and love.”
The contest, intended for locals only, has been neck and neck between Wahlquist and Porter and another couple from the East Coast, who entered the contest before Goldsmith was able to specify that it was only a local giveaway.
The couple with the most “likes” on their love story video will win. The Wahlquist/Porter video can be viewed here, www.YouTube.com.
Wahlquist, a Community Health major here at UVU and Porter, an Exercise Science major at BYU were introduced last summer through a mutual friend. And after that first meeting, as they say, the rest was history. They have spent nearly every day together since.
“We are planning on getting married this summer, and we both agree it will not come fast enough,” Porter said. “We are so in love!”
Like any couple looking to get married, the two began searching for rings. After narrowing down the choices to three, Wahlquist discovered the Goldsmith contest and talked Porter into making a video with him to enter.
“The ring that the contest is giving away looks amazing and is way out of our budget,” Porter said.
Wahlquist intends to propose to Porter soon, and hopes to be able to do so with the “dream engagement ring.”
“I know he is going to extraordinary measures to make the moment when he gets down on one knee amazing,” Porter said.
The contest ends on Feb. 14, and whether they win or not, Wahlquist and Porter continue to tell their love story as they prepare for their brilliant beginning.
