The Caleb Mitchell Gallery in downtown Provo is currently undergoing a name change, and giving local photographers the opportunity to take up some of their wall space.
Caleb Mitchell, a student at UVU, is currently photographing a “documentation of Utah,” according to his profile on Flickr.com.
His pictures, dramatic depictions of local parks, temples, buildings, and scenery, are striking. With prolonged exposure and the occasional use of a fisheye lens, his photos give the classic Utahan scenes an unexpected element.
His photos have a way of making local architecture and nature look larger than life, making any people in the photos look surprisingly small. His pictures of local Mormon temples, especially, bring out this contrast.
The gallery participates in Downtown Provo’s Gallery Stroll every first Friday of the month, the next event being Nov. 7. During the stroll, the majority of Provo’s art galleries are free to the public, and there are often free refreshments and live entertainment, according to Provo’s Web site.
To have your photographs considered for display in the gallery, you can just “come in or call,” Mitchell said. The gallery is open from about 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays, and about noon to 10:00 p.m. on weekends.

Prints can be ordered at any number of prices. Small matted photos with a magnet on the back can be purchased for $5, or large prints can run up to $900.
The gallery also does custom imaging for other photographers for “less than most of the local framing shops,” said Mitchell.
