OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley University women’s soccer team hosted the in-state rival Utah Utes at Clyde Field Friday night looking to keep their home unbeaten streak alive.

With several key saves from goalkeeper Brooklyn Nielsen, UVU was able to secure a 0-0 tie, bringing the home unbeaten streak to 13 matches.

“Making saves is good,” said Nielsen. “Luckily I was there, and I was quick enough to react.”

In a gritty match that went to double overtime, UVU outshot Utah 13 to 7 on the night, with Breanna DeWaal leading UVU with four shots. Sara Callister, Sydney Fitzpatrick and Abby Jameson recorded two shots each. Libby Weber, Taylor Kirk and Sheridan Fox all recorded one shot.

Utah had the upper hand with shots on goal, leading UVU 5-4 on the night.

“We created some good situations, some good scoring chances and the girls can be really proud of their effort tonight,” said UVU head coach Brent Anderson. “Our defense was excellent, Brooklyn had some great saves in goal and kept the shutout out for us.”

After Friday’s draw, UVU heads to Pocatello, Idaho to face the Idaho State Bengals Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. MT.
