EDINBURG, Texas—The Utah Valley University men’s basketball completed the season-sweep of the UT-Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros with an 88-77 win Thursday night in the UTRGV Fieldhouse.

Marcel Davis led all scorers on the night with 21 points. Jaden Jackson complimented Davis with 15 points and Dayon Goodman added a career-high 14 points in 21 minutes.

The Wolverines shot 53.8 percent from the field, while holding the Vaqueros to 41.3 percent. UVU continued its hot free-throw shooting by knocking down 14-of-15 from the charity stripe, compared to UTRGV shooting 9-of-14.

The Vaqueros jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the first three and a half minutes, but the Wolverines countered by hitting high-percentage midrange jumpers. UVU took the lead midway through the first half and carried a seven-point lead into the break.UVUvsCSUB-4020

UVU relinquished a 10-point lead with 12:40 remaining, but the Wolverines took the lead back for good just over a minute later when Konner Frey drew a foul on a fast break layup. Frey completed the 3-point play to give UVU a 57-55 lead.

The Wolverines pounded the ball inside all night and dominated the Vaqueros by a margin of 50-38 in the paint.

Alex Carr came in for the closing minutes and knocked down a corner 3-pointer and gave UVU an 88-75 lead with 30 seconds to play to seal the win. Carr’s three points were part of a 31-point outburst from the Wolverine reserves.

UVU travels to Las Cruces, N.M. next to take on the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. MT. The Aggies dropped the Wolverines at the UCCU Center on Jan. 7 by a score of 78-66.
