Orem, UT – The Utah Valley University women’s soccer team improved to 4-3-0 on the season tonight as they beat Idaho State soundly 5-1 at Clyde Field. The Bengals are now 1-5-1 on the season.

Five different Wolverines scored on the night to remain undefeated at home. Web.womens soccer1 sept 10.JOThey put pressure on right from the start by scoring in the 5th minute of the match. Senior midfielder and captain Kasandra Anderson dribbled into the box on the right side and crossed the ball in low. Junior forward Taylor Kirk was at the end of that cross, firing a shot home off the top of the crossbar.

Anderson was a driving force throughout the entire game by making key tackles, possessing the ball and passing into dangerous areas for her teammates. She knew that this was a pivotal game for her team after losing the last two games on the road.

“It was huge,” Anderson said. “We needed a game like this to get our flow, energy, and rhythm back. We came out with energy and stuck to our game plan the majority of the match. That’s what helped us get a strong victory.”Web.Womens soccer Sept 10.JO

The best goal came in the 70th minute when senior midfielder Jamie Brown dribbled down the middle of the field from her team’s own half to the opposing half and blasted a left-footed shot from 25 yards out that bended away from the diving keeper to hit the right corner of the net.

All in all, it was a solid team performance, something head coach Brent Anderson was glad his team was able to accomplish.

“This team, when they’re focused and step out on the field with the right frame of mind, they’re very dangerous,” he said. “I think tonight they showed that. Five different players scored tonight. That’s a great performance.”Web.womens soccer2 sept 10.JO
