Texas-Pan American takes both wins from Utah Valley this season
The Lady Wolverines went up against UTPA for the second time this season on Feb. 13, falling just nine points short and giving the Lady Broncs the win, 78-69.
Senior Julie Smith once again posted high numbers, finishing with 24 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jenna Johnson followed right behind posting 19 points, but Utah Valley couldn’t stay up with UTPA in the final minutes of the game.
The two teams tied the game at 61 with only 3:45 left to play in the game. The Lady Broncs went on to take the lead to as much as 14 with less than a minute remaining giving themselves enough of a gap to take the game.
Both teams kept the score tight during the first half, tying the score eight times and changing the lead nine times. Going into the half, UTPA only led with a three-point advantage.
Although three Wolverine starters scored in double figures it wasn’t enough to match the Lady Broncs’ four players who also scored in double figures.
Asumi Nakayama finished with 14 points, six rebounds and six assists. Freshman Kaycee Mansfield came of the bench to contribute four points and six assists in 32 minutes of play.
Utah Valley will play their final road game this week on Feb. 25 against conference opponent Houston Baptist. The Wolverines will then return to home court for their final regular season home game on March 4 against NJIT.
Utah Valley will finish off their 2009-10 season hosting the Great West Conference tournament March 10-13 in the UVU events center.
