As of March 26, the men’s baseball team is 6-14 on the season and has lost 10 of their last 11 games. It seems to have been a rough road trip for the Wolverines.
The road trip started in Washington against Gonzaga, where the Wolverines struggled to get any momentum. Every part of their game struggled. In the four game stretch they committed eight errors, their pitching staff allowed 20 walks and they could not score more than six runs.
Their road woes continued as they headed to Corvallis, Oregon for two games against Oregon State and two against Saint Mary’s.
In the two games versus the Beavers of Oregon State, the Wolverines were dominated, losing both games.
Offensively, Utah Valley could not get seem to anything going in either game. In the two games, they only scored two runs, one of which came off an error. In the first game the Wolverines were shutout and had only four hits, losing 7-0.
In the second game, their bats were working a little better and they posted eight hits. But they could not get hits at the right time, leaving eight men on base.
The next matchup was two games against Saint Mary’s. In the first game, Saint Mary’s jumped to an early 10-0 lead, but the Wolverines did not go down without a fight.
The Wolverines scored seven runs in the top of the ninth. However for Utah Valley it would be too little too late and they would fall 10-7.
The second game versus Saint Mary’s was the only bright spot of this long road trip. After losing nine straight games, Utah Valley finally pulled one out, winning 7-6.
Next came in-state foe, BYU. The Wolverines took an early 4-2 lead into the fourth inning, but after the Cougars scored five in the fourth and four in the fifth, Utah Valley just was not able to catch up and would ultimately lose 12-5.
Though the Wolverines have struggled as of late, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel. After this long road trip, 12 of their next 16 games will be at home.
The next time Utah Valley will be at Brent Brown Ballpark will be April 3 for a four game series against Air Force.
