After their home opener was washed out on Wednesday night, the Lady Wolverines finally took the home field in the 2018 season. The UVU Wolverines battled the UNLV Rebels as long as they possibly could on Saturday night. In front of a packed house at Clyde Field, the Wolverines and Rebels settled for a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime halves. In a game that provided plenty of exciting, back-and-forth action, each team could only muster one goal a piece.

In the 74th minute , Katie Haskins put an end to the scoreless game. The UNLV goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball after Haskin’s free kick, but a deflection on the way down put the ball in the back of the net and a point on the scoreboard for the Wolverines. With a goal so late in the game, UVU hoped it would be enough to seal the victory, but the lead was short-lived.

In the 86th minute, UNLV found the equalizer. Michaela Morris found the back of the net and forced overtime. Each team had multiple chances in the extra time, but neither could end the game with the golden goal format. It was a physical and hard-fought match for the players on both sides, who showed it in the extra time. In the late minutes of the game, fatigue caused the game to result in a draw. The Wolverine’s lack of height on the defensive side of the ball was exposed on Morris’ goal to force overtime, but they kept up with the Rebels’ fast pace to preserve the draw.

The Wolverines will look to build off of the positive result  with two away games at San Diego and Cal Poly before returning back to Clyde Field on Sept. 4.
