Four Wolverines score in double figures to help UVU pick up their third straight win

SAN ANTONIO, Tex.—Returning from injury UVU junior guard Hayes Garrity didn’t miss a beat scoring 17 points in 18 minutes during his season debut as the Utah Valley University men’s basketball defeated the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners 83-78 on Saturday evening.

The Wolverines controlled the game the entire way to pick up their third straight win. Marcel Davis led the way for UVU with 19 points and Jaden Jackson tacked on an additional 16 points.MBasketball.12-1-15.JulieOstler-6

Jaden Jackson started UVU off quick with an early 3-pointer after the tipoff. The Wolverines built an eight-point lead with 13:11 to play in the first half when Garrity checked in for the first time of the season. His impact was felt immediately when he scored his first points from behind the arc on an assist from Konner Frey, then knocked down a 3-pointer in transition to give UVU its largest lead of the game at 14 points with 12:12 to play in the half.

Garrity missed the start of the season after suffering a setback while rehabbing an ACL tear and in his first game back didn’t disappoint. He scored 12 points on 4-of-4 from behind the three point line. Garrity put his final touch on the first half by hitting a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining to give UVU a 39-32 lead going into the half.

The second half, however, belonged to Marcel Davis and Jaden Jackson, who combined for 25 points in the half. Davis and Jackson led the Wolverines to a 12-point lead with 16:56 to play before the Roadrunners began chipping away at the lead to eventually tie the game 76-76 with 1:55 left in the game.

UVU went 2-for-2 from the field and made 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win 83-78. The Wolverines shot a blistering 55 percent from the field on the game, while holding the Roadrunners to 42.9 percent.

UVU travels to Louisville, KY next to take on UNC Wilmington on Tuesday, December 22nd at 4:15 p.m. MT.
