On Oct. 1, an Arts Education Conference called “Cultivating the Creative Mind” was held in the Ragan Theatre.
The purpose of the conference was to inform students about the arts and how they can affect education. There were different performing arts presentations, such as a dance theatre piece and a drama show.
This was the school’s third annual Arts Education Conference. Elementary, high school and university students attended the event along with professional educators, specialists and interested locals.
The keynote speaker, Mary Helen Immordino-Yang, an assistant professor of Psychology for the Brain and Creativity Institute at the University of Southern California, spoke on how arts are creative.
She spoke about the latest in neuroscientific and developmental evidence found on creativity and how it interacts with emotional and cognitive processing.
Those not able to be in attendance viewed the conference streamed online in Utah to various district and regional arts networking conferences.
