With several sections of the I-15 CORE project reaching completion, UDOT has announced “general nighttime lane restrictions” to install some finishing touches from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. during the week, and extending to 7:30 a.m. on the weekends. Other areas of concern are as follows:

  • Orem 1600 North
  • Orem 800 North
  • Provo Center Street
  • Spanish Fork Main Street

Girder placement will cause crews to close 1600 North in Orem to east-west travel Feb. 22-23 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. This section of road will be closed again Feb. 28 while Questar crews install new gas lines. Alternate routes include Orem 800 North and Lindon 200 South.

Drainage work, including storm drain installation, will cause closure of the northbound off-ramp and the southbound on-ramp at Orem 800 North Feb. 17 from 10:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. UDOT suggests that drivers connecting to Provo Canyon (Highway 189) use University Avenue or Orem Center Street exits.

More girder placement will cause nightly closures at Provo Center Street. Feb. 22 and 23 from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the northbound on-ramp will be closed to eastbound Provo traffic, the southbound on-ramp will be closed to westbound Provo traffic, and Center Street will be closed to both east and westbound traffic. All northbound I-15 traffic exiting the freeway at Provo Center Street will be diverted to eastbound Center Street.

Review the following video for a look at how the new type of interchange will work after completion. As the video explains, the new style will “not only increase vehicle capacity, and thus reduce traffic congestion, but it will also improve access to downtown Provo.” For information on further closures over the next few weeks, check back next week or visit www.i15core.utah.gov/getting_around.php.

UDOT crews will be installing storm drains in Spanish Fork, necessitating closures of Main Street. No closures are scheduled for this week, but UDOT is disseminating information about nightly closures as early as March 9-12 so that drivers can plan accordingly. Alternate routes suggested include the following:

  • From southbound I-15 to Main Street use U.S. 6 to 1000 North.
  • From Main Street to southbound I-15 or U.S. 6 use Main Street to 8000 South (S.R. 164), then the Benjamin interchange or go north on I-15 to the 400 South interchange.
  • Main Street north-south traffic will be detoured to 300 West from 900 South to 1600 North.
