Nu Skin continues to support UVU students
This year marks the 70th year for UVU as an institution, and on October 14 Nu Skin will be giving the title sponsor of UVU’s 2011 president’s scholarship ball.
This event is one of the most important in promoting student success and academic excellence at UVU.
Last year $100,000 in UVU presidential scholarships were given to 48 students.
UVU President Matthew S. Holland said, “It is an honor and a privilege to have Nu Skin Enterprises, a close community partner, as this year’s title sponsor. Nu Skin has a long track record of commitment to supporting education in the Valley, and in particular, to this institution.”
UVU Business program opens yet another new bachelors degree this year
Starting this semester, students can get a bachelor degree in personal finance planning.
UVU on iTunes U
UVU became the first Utah university to have available content on ITunes U on August 8. Students, staff and the general public can now download lectures, podcasts and overall general information about UVU.
“Students and the public can go to iTunes U and access the content. It is available to anyone,” said Ray Walker, associate vice president of UVU’s Office of Information Technology. “We wanted to make sure students, faculty and employees had this tool to use for instruction and for informing the public about what UVU has to offer.”
The content is available for download through any ITunes compatible device.

Traffic updates impacting UVU
As the new school year begins, students commuting by car will be affected by some major changes due to construction on I-15.
Provo Center Street off-ramp closed
The southbound I-15 off-ramp to Provo Center Street is closed for up to 90 days. Drivers should use the University Avenue exit to access downtown and east Provo. The new off-ramp will open in late fall.
Due to this closure, drivers should expect a higher volume of cars and delays near the University Parkway and Geneva Road intersection during morning and afternoon hours. Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel times, use alternate routes or use public transportation.
University Parkway on-ramp lane reduction
The northbound on-ramp from westbound University Parkway is reduced to one lane for up to three months. Drivers should anticipate moderate to heavy travel delays during their afternoon commute.

New Faculty Additions
Jacob Sybrowsky and Jerry Mason have been added to the UVU faculty to help meet the new programs curriculum.
Sybrowsky, was recently awarded his Ph.D. in personal finance planning from Texas Tech University. Mason, Ph.D., has been involved in developing the program at Brigham Young University, and Texas Tech University.
Norman Wright, dean of the Woodbury School of Business said, “The Personal Financial Planning demonstrates the Woodbury School’s commitment to serving societal needs.”
Scholarships for non-traditional students
Sponsored by UVU, the Elder Quest organization raised enough money to provide 18 scholarships for non-traditional students despite the rise in tuition.
During a seminar held in April, Elder Quest held a fundraiser and received private donations which helped create the scholarships.
“The proceeds from the generosity of all those who participated in the seminar were far beyond expectations and all funds were matched by Elder Quest and other private donors,” said Elder Quest president, Rhoda Zobell.
Elder Quest, part of UVU’s Community & Continuing Education Department, provides educational opportunities for students 55 years and older.
