With 1.5 million followers on Instagram and over 3 million subscribers on YouTube, there is no denying that James Seo is an Internet Sensation. The UVU student, studying Applied Communications, is known for his ‘$1 or mystery gift’ challenge videos. He features many different UVU campus locations in his content, as well as other UVU students, giving back to the University community.
In early 2023, he made a series of posts that acted as an internet request to world-famous YouTuber Mr. Beast. He wanted to collaborate with him. In June of 2023, engagement on his posts and videos skyrocketed as he achieved that long-awaited collaboration with Mr. Beast in a video that played up his ‘$1 or mystery gift’ challenge. His popularity has only been growing since then with more amazing collaborations, and he seems to only be reaching higher and higher in the internet community.
However, his supporters began to wonder if his involvement with Mr. Beast would be more of a detriment, rather than a support, to his success.
